Quality Assurance in Research

HiProfessor Suleiman Ramon Yusuf gave insight on the topic saying the quality assurance of Nigeria University system in research goes down to Bsc degree graduate and not just PhD.

He stressed on the point that some supervisors don't even know what exactly they do according to a professor from a university in Nigeria, saying; they only just accumulate data instead of proper research.

Professor Mbah referenced that the World Bank started a ln African Excellence project called the The Africa centers for excellence and quality assurance (ACE). The aim is to improve relevance and quality of Africa higher education and also to contribute to the development to the higher education sector.

There were actually 8+ countries who showed interest in the project as Ivory coast, Gambia and few others.

The proposals submitted were screened by international bodies and 22 were accepted such as 10 from Nigeria, two from Senegal and some others.

The areas addressed during the selection were Agriculture, and two others. The selected centers have been running since 2017. The number of countries and institution were increased in participation leading to more quality and quantity leading to 56 centers of excellence with included countries as Djibouti.

ACE has three components
1 strengthen the capacity of ace institution
2 strengthen the capacity of non ace institution
3 Monitoring and evaluation unit.
