11TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AND WORKSHOP ON QUALITY ASSURANCE IN HIGHER EDUCATION IN AFRICA

The event which was embraced with an opening with the national anthem saw the State minister of education gave speech and recommended the President of Nigeria, president Muhammadu Buhari, after which he presented an award and the first ever award of Afriqan (African Quality Assuranace Network) to the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commisiison (NUC); Professor Adamu Abubakar Rasheed. Professor Rasheed gave a speech on the theme "Towards sustainability of continental harmonization agenda of higher education in Africa"

On Invitation, he welcomed the chairman of the occasion, who opened the room for questions about the development of Nigerian universities.

Professor Efhosa Director of Quality assurance in Benue State University asked a question saying; How will the measurements of quality assurance be measured in Nigerian universities especially during exams.

Dr Doe from Finland said he is always with doctor Shabani and professor Okebukola shared his feelings saying; He wonders why Quality assurance has taken long to get implemented in Nigeria universities system is because of problems. He also showed appreciation on the presentation of Executive the executive secretary.

Professor Bello from University of Illorin Dean post graduate school said;  Consideration of merit society as it is in merit society is to amend the system by looking out of the country to other universities.

Vice Chancellor Ignatius Olumawo of the African University asked how the intention to change the mindset of Nigeria graduate in quality assurance? He also mentioned that innovation using technology always come with criticism by people and rather than outright condemnation it is better to put technology into more practice.

Professor Peter Okebukola commented on the Ethiopian Delegate dating the matter is important, however the system not being serious in quality assurance, but forget also that the primary and secondary level who are hopelessly built should be given attention on quality assurance.

The delegate was also given a section to explain more on his Ethiopian experience.

Professor Peter Okebukola also made comment on the VIce chancellor Ignatius feelings saying that there are steps to be taken on advantage and disadvantage of his feelings in quality assurance. Also at the mindset feelings was addressed by him saying that the Nigerian university system is study one of the best checking from a global level. His point was underlined by the fact that European employers seeks more for Nigerian graduate. He said the mindset should be changed by during the right thing.

He also commented on the saying if Dr Doe saying the business world is different from the Human world. And the process involved is dynamic. 

Professor Bello's question was referred to the advice of Professor Mbah to find more answers on the AU website.

Dr Doe also referenced on the Speech of Professor Rasheed concerning collaboration and expansion of studies to other countries as Nigerians both in Africa and Europe and encouraged the use of ICT in impacting knowledge on people as well.

Professor Mbah gave a mention on no condemnition on Africans rather but to out in our best and the right thing, and this will change the mindset about Nigerians and Africa as a whole. Speaking more, be said that Africans going to other places and not giving good account of themselves is not fully reputable but however the foundation and background of education matters on such instances. A synergistic way should be implemented on doing things in the system of universities rather than tapping in from other organisations. Continuously working together and embracing of new technology will improve the nature of Universities system in Nigeria and Africa.

The acting Vice Chancellor of Crutech was given a time to ask her question, and she Mrs Anthonia asked if there are any idea for the government to improve the nature of universities funding, and also how will the exact amount of budget be given to universities not just for accreditation hustle.

Professor Peter Okebukola commented on Mrs Anthonia's comment saying perhaps going to the National assembly to ask for more money may be useful or even going to the state government to give out full budget. 

Professor Peter Okebukola also said NUC is the only body that can raise universities budget and this can only happen when the school standard is screened and accepted by the NUC.
